Introduction post

I wish to study at DMU because I read that they work closely with the industry to design engaging courses that will strongly benefit my career. Their focus on making sure that graduates have sufficient experience in a field of their choosing by offering overseas placements and internships before hitting the job market (DMU website, 2022) is very appealing to me.

My chosen course title in DMU is software engineering. It consists of a variety of different mandatory modules such as: Database Design and Implementation, Fundamental Concepts of Computer Science, Computer Programming, Operating Systems and Networks, Object Oriented Design and Development, Data Structures and Algorithms, Web Application Development, Software Development: Methods and Standards, Mobile App Development and Big Data. What is more, at the end of year three you are tasked with a choice to pick two of three optional modules which are Functional Programming, Advanced Web Development, Embedded Systems and IoT (DMU website, 2022). With such a wide range of modules it is tough to choose a favourite, but the ones I am excited the most about are Computer programming and Web Application Development because they are a big part of our everyday lives and I am keen on having a more of an in depth look at them.

After finishing the course I plan to waste no time and look for a software development job. I hope DMU can aid me in that search by providing me with the necessary practical and analytical skills and maybe in ten years I can fulfil my dream of working for one of the big tech giants.
